What can fillers do for me?

Fillers are a wonderful treatment option to correct wrinkles around the mouth, loose or sagging skin, hollows in your cheeks or under your eyes or if you would like fuller more defined lips. Fillers, often thought of a plumping, are more naturally uses to plump and then smooth.

Why Our Faces Begin to Look Older

There are many things that contribute to an aging face:

  1. lines, wrinkles, discoloration and sagging skin
  2. loss of fullness
  3. decreased production of collagen
  4. loss of muscle

With aging, people lose fat in their faces. Fat in a face contributes to filling out the skin and keeping a face looking smooth and supple. In our mid 20s, we begin to stop producing collagen. Collagen plays a major role in the strength of skin and its decreased production leads to sagging. Loss of muscle occurs with age and affects the facial contour

Which filler is right for me?
In your consultation we evaluate the facial areas of concern and desired results. After the assessment of the patient’s desired treatment area, we make a product recommendation.

Facial Fillers can provide the smooth skin patients are seeking. Fillers instantly smooth away wrinkles and add volume to your face. As a general guide, the following fillers are uses to achieve desired results:

  • JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC®

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC® is a smooth gel filler that instantly smoothes away wrinkles and adds volume around your mouth, nose and face. With just one treatment, you will get smooth, natural-looking results that last up to a year. Juvéderm is one of the longest-lasting facial fillers available today.

  • Restylane

Restylane dermal filler is another solid performer. It restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth.

  • JUVÉDERM® Voluma™ XC

JUVÉDERM® Voluma™ XC® gel is the first and only filler approved by the FDA to instantly add volume to the cheek area. It subtly helps restore contour and a more youthful profile for up to two years in patients over age 21. Voluma™ XC restores contour to the cheeks to correct mid-face volume lost to normal aging with just one 30-minute treatment.

  • Juvederm Volbella ® XC

What is a Liquid Lift?
This lift is a lifting, plumping, filling, smoothing and re-contouring of the face with a combination of various injectable dermal fillers and neurotoxins.

A ‘liquid facelift’ involves injecting some form of dermal filler such as Juvederm or Restylane, and perhaps adding some Botox. This type of treatment would be more ideally suited for the type of patient that does not need a surgical facelift. Skin elasticity is a key factor in determining this.

Exciting new techniques using FDA approved soft tissue fillers have enabled us to actually plump specific areas of the face that have lost fat and sagged and then smooth skin simultaneously.

FACIAL RECONTOURING: The injectable dermal fillers that we use in our office for facial re-contouring are hydroxyl apatite (Radiesse™ and hyaluronic acid (Juvederm™, Restalyn™ and now Perlane™). Most people know these products when used to treat nasal labial folds (the lines connecting your nose to your face) or to plump the lips. Patients achieve nice improvement of these lines with injectable dermal fillers but these products can also be used to increase fullness in other areas of the face and this is what the liquid face lift achieves.

MID CHEEK AREA LIFT: The mid cheek area can be augmented with fillers and this new volume significantly enhances a youthful face. In fact, cheeks with more volume typically have less dramatic nasal labial fold lines.

JOWL AREA LIFT: A third area treated in this lift is the pre-jowl sulcus. These are the vertical lines that are on either side of the mouth. They connect the edges of the mouth to the jaw. These are also known as Marionette lines.

These new filler techniques enable experienced plastic surgeons to lift the cheek and drooping areas around the mouth. Results are very exciting when the technique is properly applied. Because we are injecting liquid or semi solid fillers we call this technique the liquid face lift. To achieve these results, often a few different fillers are used in each procedure. The use of fillers for facial augmentation is very patient specific and surgeon specific.

Where does Botox fit in?
Botox™ enhances the liquid face lift. Botox™ can be very useful when dermal fillers have been used to fill in expression lines, such as the creases that formed when smiling. The repeated over-use of the surrounding muscles will cause the filler to break down more quickly. This breakdown shortens the length of time before more injections are needed to maintain results. With less muscle contraction after Botox TM the filler used for your liquid face lift should last longer. Lines that can be reduced with Botox™ are frown lines, worry lines, crows feet, bunt lines, and lip lines. No, Botox™ applied by a skilled hand does not make you look like a figure in the wax museum!
